the watermelon incident

Today is not really a good day for me due to an LBM outbreak last Sunday. I'm supposed to make some caramel pops for my mom so that she could market my product into her school but plan failed due to an incident that I must not forget.

It was Saturday around 9 in the evening I was eating 2 ripe mangoes and 3 oranges then continued with my work on my workstation until 2:00 O'clock in morning came and I felt so thirsty, so I went downstairs and tried to get some drink. So I opened our ref and looked for some cold water but instead the watermelon got my attention and I grab half of it and cut a piece of it and ate it, ahhh sooo nice and refreshing until 3:00 O'clock in the morning came and Boom stomach ache and uncontrolled effortless bowel movement, I really cant describe the correctly the exact feeling but everything went out plus I did vomit. So I was so scared and woke my mom up and asked for medicine and also prepared 2 "tanduay junior" bottle and filled it with hot water so that I could hot compress my stomach and foot area. I suffered for almost an hour until the pain subsided "just little" in the morning at around 5:15 A.M. so to make this boring story short am into soft diet right now because of that watermelon incident and thank you to gatorade for re hydrating me with liquids and electrolytes that I lost.

Lesson?? If your thirsty have a glass of water and don't eat watermelon early in the morning with an empty stomach.

Kung Pao Chicken

Good day so powers back and am back writing my recipes for Kung Pao chicken, this is not the original ingredients btw, I just based the ingredients by tasting Kung Pao Pasta in KFC, hope it will taste a bit close to the original one and I also used chicken wings instead of chicken breast because I think the wing part is more tasty. So here it is :p

Ingredients:

1 Kilo chicken cut into 3 parts (choiced cuts, wing part)

1 pack or 150 grams roasted skinless nuts or roasted cashew nuts

5 pcs Dried chili minced ;but since I dont have dried chilies I used the fresh ones in the market, also quantity depends upon you if how tolerable you are to chili

2 tsp vegetable oil or peanut oil

1 tsp black pepper

4 Tbsp Hoisin Sauce

4 Tbsp Plum Sauce

2 tbsp soy sauce

cornstarch

2 cloves of garlic minced

a little ginger crushed then minced

Procedure:

1. Cut the chicken wings into 3 parts and washed it then put it into a mixing bowl.

2. add soy sauce, 2 tbsp of cornstarch, black pepper then mixed it using your hands. Be sure that your hands are clean. then set aside.

3. Combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce and plum sauce then set aside this mixture.

4. Heat oil and add the chili into your large wok. Stir until the color is a bit darker, remove the peper but kep the oil into the Wok

5. Add garlic and ginger then immediately add the chicken.

6. when you see that your chicken is already a little brownish in color add the chili again and then stir constantly.

7. add the sauce mixture and stir briefly, after that move the chicken towards the side and let the sauce settle into the center. Bring the sauce to boil or until the hoisin sauce is well done.

8. While it is boiling add the cornstarch mixture to thicken the sauce, mixed the chicken back and add peanuts. Stir for about a minute and you are done.

OK hope this recipe will be with a little help to your cooking, I am going to research more and maybe taste a real kung pao chicken somewhere in chinatown or I'll asked some of my Chinese friends and update this recipe. Until next time and enjoy
a taste of food :)

Caramel Popcorn

Its Friday and I don't have class today so I decided to test my recipe for caramel coated popcorn which is a success plus another experimental recipe of mine for Kung Pao Chicken, made two versions because my mom doesn't like spicy food so I made 2 separate dishes ok so here it goes the recipe and procedure of my Caramel coated popcorn and Kung Pao Chicken. enjoy.

Caramel Coated Popcorn

Ingredients

Caramel mixture:
half cup butt er
half cup Corn syrup
half cup brown sugar a
tsp of baking soda

Popcorn:
100 grams popcorn kernels
1/4 cup butter
vegestable oil

pinch of salt to taste

Procedure:
1. Cook your popcorn corn kernel the usual way you cook popcorn then add a pinch of salt after all the kernels have been popped then set your popcorn aside.

2. It is now time
to make your caramel mixture ok so lets start by preparing a medium size pot that is large enough to stir your popcorn.
3. On that pot, add the butter, brown sugar and corn syrup together then keep on stirring under medium heat until all the ingredients would caramelized.

OK so how do we know that the mixture is ready?? their are 2 ways according to my research. One is to use a candy thermometer and measure it around 250 degrees but since I don't have a candy thermometer I used another method. I prepared half cup of cold wa
ter then pour a little of my mixture into the water, if the mixture hardens then we are probably on the right track.

4. After making sure that the mixture is on the right temperature I am going to put off the fire then add the last ingredient which is the baking soda, you'll noticed that it will start foaming then rise up a bit so just keep on stirring the mixture until it is well mixed.

5. Prepare your popcorn then add all your popcorn to the caramel mixture and start mixing, if you feel that all the popcorn is well coated, remove the popcorn and put it on a bowl and let it cool.

6. After about 15 to 20 mins, you can now start breaking your caramel popcorn into pieces and put it into your desired container. I suggest that you store it in a cool place or inside your refrigerator because it will make your popcorn more crispier and crunchier.

OK so your done, after an hour into your fridge am sure that your caramel popcorn is now ready to be consumed or it can also be a great gift. :)

So Next is Kung Pao Ch
icken but my apologies because I cant continue due to power interruption, the government should really do something about this problem,ow well see you next time or maybe later if the power is back...thanks and I hope you've learned something from me today and feel free to comment or if you want to add something feel free to give suggestions and comments.

Hello!!

Hello. Good day to all of you. Ok, so at last I finally decided to make a blog that is simply food related. Why? well simply because I love food, I love to cook, I love to experiment with food and most of my bonding time with friends are spent mostly in restaus' and new food places or just cooking at home with the gang.

Most of the content that you guys might expect would be my personal recipes, recipes from friends, modified recipes for special purpose, food trips, food commentaries and also food places that you might try out. I might also be giving tips, previews and reviews on some restaurants or food places.

Ok, so thats all for now see you on my next post and welcome to A Taste of Food.
